Production and Market Analysis of Bisphenol A

The main processes for production of bisphenol A include sulfuric acid process, hydrogen chloride process and ion-exchange resin process. The global production capacity of bisphenol A was 3 million tons per year, and the consumption was 2.9 million tons in 2002, mainly used for producing polycarbonate and epoxy resins. Consumption for polycarbonate resins accounted for 65% of global total, followed by epoxy resins at 30%. The main domestic producers of bisphenol A are Wuxi Resin Factory of Lanxing New Material Company and Tianjin Shuangfu (Group) Co., Ltd., with total capacity of 51000 t/a, in which 80% of them are used to produce epoxy resins. At home the bisphenol A is in great demand and most of the products are depending on import. With the rapid developing of polycarbonate industry in future a fine quality of bisphinol A product would be a well market prospect.
