Abstract:Evaluating mud shale hydration only according to the specific surface area and the specific water absorption is partial. Taking account of the different mechanism of water absorption between montmorillonite and illite in mud shales, the definition of specific water absorption is introduced in this paper. Comprehensively taking use of two independent indexes, that are specific surface area and water absorption rate, the degree of mud shale hydration is scientifically reflected.
