Abstract: | Gas-liquid mass transfer coefficients were determined by oxygen desorption for cocurrent upflow in packed beds. Data are included for seven different catalyst supports, four of which have not appeared previously in the literature. Very low flow rates (liquid: 0.9–6.0 mm/s, gas; 1.5–31 mm/s) of interest in pilot-scale catalytic hydrogenation, were investigated. The results correlated well with liquid and gas flow rates for each packing. In addition, the data for all packings were correlated reasonably well by the energy dissipated in the liquid phase. |
