Abstract:The shock loaded metals were investigated using TEM. The results show that twinning is ahighly favored deformation mechanism under shock loading. Metals that do not twin by conven-tional deformation at ambient temperature can be made to twin by shock loading. In addition , thedislocation cell walls in shock loaded metals are usually poorly defined because there is insufficienttime for the dislocation to equilibrate. Under the same shock loading condition . the stacking-faultenergy is an important intrinsic factor to determine twinning and dislocation substructure.
