Silicone Emulsions in Hair Care Application

Silicone emulsions are widely used in hair care application as conditioning agents. The effectiveness of these emulsions might depend on some of the variables used to make the emulsions, such as the nature of the emulsifying agents, particle size, internal phase viscosity, functionality of the silicone polymer and class of system and type of hair where these emulsions are applied. This paper describes a variety of silicone emulsions and compares their conditioning performance on different types of hair. Conditioning performance was measured by the Instron wet combing method and sensory evaluations.
