CECIL cleaning for steam generators in Nuclear Power Station

Sludge lancing hydraulic cleaning, in which high pressure water jets are directed into the tube bundle from the central lane or the periphery of the tube bundle. The force of the water jet falls off rapidly with distance from the jet orifice and so may be insufficient to fracture the sludge pile, which is usually located well inside the tube bundle. The robatic device, known as CECIL-the Consolidated Edison Combined Inspection and Lancing System-is teleoperated to perform tube bundle inspections, sludge lancing and sludge sampling. It provides a means for accurate, repeatable access to locations deep within the tube bundle. This promises considerable advantages over conventional sludge lancing hydraulic cleaning.
