Abstract:
Al2O3–TiC composites with a content of 30 wt% TiC with various size of starting powders were manufactured by hot pressing. The Vickers hardness, bending strength and fracture toughness were studied. The experiment results show that the starting powder size has a significant effect on the properties of the Al2O3–TiC composites. The maximum bending strength of the submicron Al2O3 with the fine TiC powders addition is 712 MPa, while the maximum fracture toughness of the same Al2O3 matrix with the large TiC powders addition is 6.5 MPa m1/2.
