The mid shaft of 3.4m speed reducer for a plate mill has a short service life. The wastage of the shaft causes not only great economic decrease but also shortage of the spare supplied.The technique of repair welding was used for rebuilding the shaft in Liuzhou Iron and Steel Co.and good effects were achieved.This paper introduces the processes of repairing the gear shaft.
