Abstract:The epoxy functionalized acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS-g-GMA)core-shell impact modifiers were synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization by grafting styrene(St),acrylonitrile(AN)and epoxyl propyl methacrylate(GMA)on the surface of polybutadiene(PB).The un-grafted segments(SAN-co-GMA)in the ABS-g-GMA core-shell modifiers were separated by ultra-centrifugation.The remaining insoluble substances were ABS-g-GMA′core-shell modifiers.Then,the separated free SAN-co-GMA segments were added back into PBT/ABS-g-GMA′blends in accordance with different amounts.The effect of the amount of un-grafted segments on the toughening of PBT resins by ABS-g-GMA′modifiers was investigated.The results show when the free SAN-co-GMA segments accounts for 2.50%of ABS-g-GMA′modifiers are added,the impact strength and elongation at break of the PBT/ABS-g-GMA′blends could achieve the highest level.Besides,all the elastic modulus,yield strength and bending strength of the blending system are the minimum.The morphology of blends indicate that the introduction of the free SAN-co-GMA segments show little effect on the distribution of core-shell modifiers in the PBT resins.
