The missing link [statistical analysis]

During a long industrial career the writer observed many occasions on which the neglect of statistical analysis of process capability by design engineers resulted in problems during production. In this article some basic statistical methods are demonstrated with elementary data in the hope of convincing doubting engineers that they are easy to use, simple to teach, and full of pragmatic common sense.
