| Abstract: | Assessed the degree of taxonomic category encoding in 160 low-socioeconomic status (SES) Black and middle SES White children. D. D Wickens's (see record 1970-04540-001) release from proactive interference task was used to index categorical encoding of animal and clothing items. Build-up and release from proactive interference was observed for each population at 2 different grade levels (2nd and 4th). The degree of proactive interference build-up and release was not affected by either population membership or grade level.
