从交际翻译和语义翻译看《红楼梦》章回目录的两种翻译

英国翻译理论家纽马克所提出的＂语义翻译＂和＂交际翻译＂理论是两种基本的翻译方法。语义翻译较客观,讲究准确性,屈从原语文化和原作者;而交际翻译较主观,只注重译文读者的反应,使原语屈从译语和译语文化,不给译文读者留下任何疑点与晦涩难懂之处。杨宪益和霍克斯的两个《红楼梦》英译本,从纽马克所提出的＂语义翻译＂和＂交际翻译＂的理论出发,各自运用了语义翻译和交际翻译方法,对比分析《红楼梦》章回目录翻译,可认识和解释这两种翻译现象。

Comparison between Two English Versions of Chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions from Communicative and Semantic Translation Approaches

Communicative translation and semantic translation are two basic translation methods proposed by translator Peter Newmark.Semantic translation focuses on objectivity and accuracy and is its original writer-centered;while communicative translation is subjective and translator-centered.The two translation versions of A Dream of Red Mansions given by Yang Xian-yi and David Hawkes represent two translation strategies and embody the semantic translation and communicative translation theory proposed by translator Peter Newmark.By analyzing the translation of chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions,the article discusses these two translation phenomena.
