Abstract:It is an ever-lasting theme to improve the performance of traction drive system and the quality of traction power supply for electrified railway. Rail transit electrification is a necessity to increase the running speed and carrying capacity, to realize energy saving and high efficiency for railway transportation. The rapid development of rail transit electrification has been driven by edging technologies based on power electronics, motor drives, modern control and information technology, etc. In the recent years, the application and reliability assessment of power semiconductors, control and modulation technology of traction converters, high-performance traction motor drive, as well as advanced topology for traction power supply and traction drive system are becoming the research hot-topics, with the development of advanced power semiconductors, advanced control theory, intelligent detection and health diagnosis. These topics have received continuous attention from the academia and industry. In order to explore the critical and hot issues on control and application of traction drive system, a special section on Rail Transit Electrification has been launched in the Journal of Power Supply.
