Abstract:
The theory of the Zener effect according to Houston's method leads to an integral which hitherto has only been solved approximately using the saddlepoint method. In the present paper the integral is computed exactly for all values of the parameter. The mainly interesting asymptotic expression for high values of the parameter gives a value of the integral greater by a factor 3 than the previous approximation.
