| Abstract: | Neodymium pentaphosphate (NdPP) crystal is an important working material for miniature lasers. The interfacial defects in the growth region seriously affect the laser performance. This paper reports the results of the studies on the distribution and characteristic of such defects by using X-ray topography. The cause of the formation and the method of overcoming such defects are also discussed. Finally, this paper has pointed out that such defects in bulk NdPP crystal can be examined by using cross-polarized light technique. This has provided a convenient and easy means of selecting the laser rods and avoiding the defects. |
