The Colonial Model of the Commercial Districts in Modern China

Based on the analysis of the basic elements of urban form-location characteristic, land use layout, block fabric, street circulation, the paper summarizes the typical model and form of the commercial districts of the colonial cities in modern China. The typical characteristics include advantageous location, land use layout with planar development, the orderly controlled block fabric, the convenient and rational street planning. The paper aims to provide a theoretical base in urban form study, which will facilitate the future redevelopment of commercial districts of the colonial model.
