Comparison and selection for the materials performance of carbon seal rings used in medium speed coal mills

Carbon sealing rings prepared by adding infiltrators,considered as the essential and damageable parts,are widely applied in medium speed coal mills in thermal power plants.In view of the problems resulted from improper selection of the carbon sealing rings,the distinct differences of preparing process,manufacturing process,production cost between the rings infiltrated phenolic resin and Sb were compared.In addition,the mechanical performance,applicability and operating life were analyzed in detail.Several selection principles for the optimum cost performance of carbon seal rings were determined on the basis of coal quality and overhaul period requirements.The introduced identification method for the quality of carbon sealing ring in this paper is simple and applicable for power plants to identify and choose the appropriate rings.
