Abstract: | Two kinds of carbon felt reinforced carbon composites, C/C-A and C/C-B, containing respectively pitch carbon fibers and PAN carbon fibers, have been developed to enhance the fracture mechanics properties. The fracture toughness values of these new composites were measured as a function of temperature up to 2400°C. These results are compared with those of a carbon fiber cloth reinforced carbon composite containing rayon fibers (C/C-C) and a fine grain isostatic graphite (IG-11). Major differences among these materials and their distinctive features are discussed. |
