The Development of an Automated Program for the Optimal Design of Bulk Cushioning Systems

This paper presents an automated approach to the design of bulk cushioning systems. The developed code can be utilized in package and shipping container design, and other impact absorption applications. A model of impact response is developed and its validity demonstrated through statistical testing. The model is then used as the objective program for a sequential search procedure that searches out the best cushion design.
