Abstract:The viscous damping assumption leads to several disadvantages of the current time-history analysis methods used in the seismic calculation of hybrid structures. The hysteretic damping assumption can produce more consistent results with the experimental ones and overcomes the shortcomings of the viscous damping assumption. In the present study, a mode superposition method, which is applicable to both single-material structure and hybrid structure, is proposed based on hysteretic damping assumption, and in the proposed method the creation of damping matrix is simple with less workload and clear in the physical meaning. Additionally, in the proposed method, the trouble of pre-determining a few significant frequencies of the response when calculating the damping matrix based on the viscous damping assumption and the difficulty of calculating the modal damping ratio can be obviated, so that the classical mode superposition method used in the seismic calculation of hybrid structures can be improved effectively and more reasonable results, which are more consistent with the failure mode of model shaking table test, can be achieved.
