Evaluation of Optical Internet and IP over DWDM

The enabling technologies and evolution of the optical Internet are discussed,the problems and development tendency of IP over DWDM is analysed.Typical network infrastructures of broadband Internet and their characteristics are overviewed and compared,thus IP over DWDM is identified as one of the key enabling technologies of future broadband Internet.Thereafter,the tough problems in realizing IP over DWDM are discussed,including the all-optical signal processing and multi-protocol label switching.Finally,the optical packet switching technology is discussed and its significant role in future optical Internet is forecast.
