Concerto of Ink and Colour: Review of Chinese Painting in the 20th Century

This essay analyzes the development of Chinese painting in the twentieth century in respect of how to deal with the relationship between ink and colour and how to bring it into practical use. The author summarizes four ink and colour models of different types and discovered some rules and theory about the use of ink and colour, which conforms to the developing features of the Chinese painting. The essay confirms and sings high praise for the brilliant achievement of Chinese painting won in the twentieth century and also points out some deviation and faults. It analyzes as well as researches the historical experience of gains and losses by means of induction and summarization, revision and prospect. At the end of the article, it points out that the Chinese painting in the twenty-first century is sure to be more brilliant and successful; the concerto of ink and colour will sound more beautiful and resounding.
