On Knowledge Representation and Inference Mechanism of an Object-Oriented PXDCAP System

This paper describes the knowledge representation and inference mechanism of PXDCAP (PXD Computer Aided Process Planning) system, a CAPP system developed by us.Based on object - oriented technology, the paper packs the object, knowledge, and knowledge proccessing into an independent unit, which is called intelligent object; it then puts forward object - oriented technology knowledge representation. The paper, after careful exploration, develops a hierarchital technology knowledge base model, which, centering around the object in technology planning domain, creates technology knowledge structure according to classification and hierarchy of intelligent objects.Finally, the paper, after discussing, classifies the inference mechanism into two parts:(1) the inference mechanism within each intelligent object applies production principles; (2)the inference mechanism among the intelligent objects is implemented through communicating among these objects.
