Lightning direction display

For good operation of electrical energy transmission lines and safety of the line-maintenance crew it has proved very useful to be well informed about incoming electrical storms. In some isolated regions short-term meteorological information is not available; in order to compensate for this deficiency a relatively simple radio lightning direction finder, which is low in cost and occupies little space, was developed at IREQ in close collaboration with specialists from McGill University meteorological centre. The results obtained suggest that this equipment will be extremely useful in remote areas of the electrical network.
