Human Resource Practices and Firm Performance in Chinese Enterprises

Abstract:This study uses data from 201 Chinese firms to test two competing theories concerning human resource practices and firm performance. "Best practice theory" is supported for many of the human resource practices examined in the study. Contingency theory is generally not supported for three contingencies: business strategy, ownership and industry.
