Abstract:MnS inclusions precipitation on polished surface of solid low sulfur steel was observed by confocal microscopy,and by making use of confocal observation results the experiment on MnS precipitation by temperature-controlled rolling was carried out,the composition of precipitated inclusions was analyzed by SEM-EDS and ASPEX.The results show that the first precipitation of MnS occurs at 1067℃with surface distortion,and stops at 859.7℃while the interfacial energy is released with the distorted surface.The second precipitation of MnS occurs at 790℃,the precipitated MnS is micro-granular of 1-2μm.Compared with the MnS inclusions on the surface and subsurface of sample,it is found that surface energy promotes the precipitation of MnS on the surface in a specific temperature range.The low sulfur steel sample is rolled at set temperature between800-950℃using reversible mill rolling,both amount of total MnS and small size MnS are 3-4times as many as billet sample,some of them are rolled broken MnS,and more are small size granular MnS which precipitated during temperature-controlled rolling.It shows that the deformation energy produced by rolling force can promote the precipitation of MnS in a specific temperature range.
