Abstract:
The predicted influence of drop size distribution on the performance of liquid—liquid extraction columns has been experimentally verified for non-coalescing dispersions in a rotating disc contactor. Moderate increases in drop size distribution width, at a constant average drop size (d32), caused reductions of up to 56% in the number of transfer units.
