Effect of antimony trioxide on corrosivity of volatile polycondensation distillates in synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate

Conclusions The effect of Sb₂O₃ on the corrosivity of volatile polycondensation distillates has been studied. Inhibiting action of the antimony which separates on metallic constructional materials thereupon has been shown. It has been found that separation of antimony on apparatus walls takes place due to reduction of Sb₂O₃ by the metal of the contact surface.It has been established that the formation of noncontinuous coatings of antimony on the surface of carbon steel leads to an intensification of local corrosion.
