Properties and application of Gemini surfactants

Gemini surfactants are regarded as a new generation of surfactants, which is made up of two identical amphillic moieties covalently connected at the level of the headgroups by a spacer group. The structural characteristics, physical and chemical properties of Gemini surfactants(including interface absorption, surface activity, critical micelle concentration, synergistic effects etc.)were reviewed. The applications of Gemini surfactants in the fields of dyeing-assistant, new materials, medicine, oil collection, environmental protection, biological technology, anti-HIV were introduced as well.
