Development and investigation of the regulator of the passive heat-removal system for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (India)

Abstract:A system for passive removal of the residual heat released in VVéR-1000 with a heat-removal regulator in the form of an air damper operating passively is described. The main results of the computational and experimental validation of the operability of the regulator are presented. It is shown that the design proposed for the regulator gives the nominal characteristics and enables stable operation of the system in hot stand-by and cool-down regimes of the reactor system, and it can be used in the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (India) which is now under construction. __________ Translated from Atomnaya énergiya, Vol. 102, No. 1, pp. 49–52, January, 2007.
