| Abstract: | Elastic tissue has been identified in the scanning electron microscope by two independent methods. In one case specifically stained fibres were examined by both light and scanning electron microscopy and in the other chemically purified elastic fibres from ligamentum nuchae were studied. Elastic fibres above 2 μm diameter were found to have a central amorphous core and an irregularly corrugated and undulating outer surface. This model is in good agreement with that proposed on the basis of previous transmission electron microscopic studies. |
