Abstract:Abstract

The statistical properties of two interfering speckle fields indicate a reduction in phase variation as the coherent correlation between them increases. In this paper, the impact of this phenomenon on fringe visibility in shearing speckle interferometry, where two laterally shifted speckle fields are super-imposed, is studied. Work is also done to correlate fringe visibility with the amount of lateral shear based on the limitations imposed by phase variance statistics.
