Abstract: | A novel method, based on a single experimental test under proportional feedback, has been developed to tune PID controllers on-line. The tuning method involving an identification scheme and a dominant pole design technique is ideal for automatic tuning. It also provides an adaptive algorithm to adjust the controller settings to achieve the desirable control performance satisfying the prescribed decay ratio and stability margin. A simulation study demonstrates that the method is valid for processes with large dead-times as well as open-loop underdamped processes. |
