An improved finite-difference analysis of bending of thin rectangular elastic plates

Abstract:A finite-difference formulation that gives accurate bending moments for thin elastic plates is presented. The biharmonic equation is replaced with two deflection-normal bending moment relations and the equilibrium equation in terms of the moments. Isotropic as well as orthotropic rectangular plates under various loadings and edge conditions are analyzed to demonstrate the accuracy of the present formulation.
