Abstract:The seat-designing principle proposed here originates in ASME Code but differs from the ASME Code's. The gland gasket seals proposed according to the principle have a seal-maintaining factor m bigger than one or have a self-energized ability so as to be able to make use of the cold flow property of gasket material to strengthen sealing,and therefore can passes a proof pressure test of 2 times the rating and a burst pressure test of 4 times the rating for any pressure vessel using these seals,and can meet the need of sealing connections by using a new sealing structure of "microline contact followed by a micro-surface contact".
