Evaluating treatment effectiveness by monitoring changes in problematic behaviors.

Suggests the use of a problem-oriented approach for the measurement of change in patient status, using an ordinal scale format. Correlational data and findings from the use of this approach with spouses and patients receiving conjoint family therapy are presented to illustrate the advantages of the method.
