Abstract: | Discusses the contributions made by Ward Edwards, the 1996 recipient of the Distinguished Scientific Award for the Applications of Psychology presented by the American Psychological Association (APA). Edwards is awarded for his contributions to the study and improvement of human decision making. His pioneering experiments and integrative review articles created and shaped the field of behavioral decision theory, demonstrating that psychology could illuminate human decision making in unique and valuable ways. In addition, he designed and implemented both simple tools and sophisticated systems for aiding probabilistic inference and multiattribute decision analysis. A biography of Edwards is provided.
