Abstract: | The dependence of a critical current at which a virtual cathode (VC) is formed in an electron beam on the retarding electric field and the external focusing magnetic field have been studied. It is shown that, as the retarding field exceeds a certain threshold value, both stationary and nonstationary (oscillating) VCs can form in the interaction space. |
