| Abstract: | The evolution of backfill disrtribution systems for deep mines is examined with reference to South African gold mining experience. The flow behaviour of various types of backfill slurries is discussed and the importance of selecting the correct modelling approach for calculating pipeline pressure gradients is emphasised. The design of a backfill distribution system for a South American gold mine is presented. |
