Double quenching of the formed aluminum alloy V95och
Authors:V I Silaeva  T V Solov'eva
Abstract:The alloy V95och is distinguished from alloy V95 by smaller content of the deleterious impurities iron and silicon, and correspondingly by smaller content of intermetallic phases that are insoluble in solid solution and impair the characteristics of reliability. This explains the higher resistance of alloy V95och to loads in structures containing stress raisers. Strengthening heat treatment of alloy V95och is carried out under conditions worked out for alloy v95. However, reduced iron and silicon content may affect, in addition to the amount of intermetallic phases insoluble in aluminum, also the position of the critical points of the alloy, and consequently the heating temperature for quenching, too. The aim of the present work is to determine the possibility of raising the heating temperature for quenching of the alloy V95och (5–7% Zn; 18–2.8% Mg; 1.4–0.25% Cr; 0.2–0.6% Mn) so as to dissolve a large amount of strengthening phases in the solid solution and to enhance the effect of strengthening during subsequent aging.Translated from Metallovedenie i Termicheskaya Obrabotka Metallov, No. 6, pp. 35–36, June, 1994.
