Adsorption Characteristics of Chromium(VI) Ions onto Fe(III)-Coordinated Amino-Functionalized Poly(glycidylmethacrylate)-Grafted TiO2-Densified Cellulose
Abstract:An investigation was conducted with a newly developed adsorbent, iron(III)- coordinated amino-functionalized poly(glycidylmethacrylate)-grafted TiO2-densified cellulose (Fe(III)-AM-PGDC) on the removal of chromium(VI) from aqueous solution. Batch experiments were performed under various conditions of time, pH, concentration, dose, ionic strength, and temperature. Adsorption of Cr(VI) on Fe(III)-AM-PGDC was dominated by ion exchange or outer-sphere complexation. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 109.76 mg g?1. Thermodynamic study showed that adsorption of Cr(VI) onto Fe(III)-AM-PGDC is more favored. The complete removal of Cr(VI) from electroplating wastewater was achieved by the adsorbent. The adsorbent did not lose its adsorption capacity even after the fourth regeneration.
