Abstract: | ABSTRACTA bipolar (BP) membrane electrodialysis (EDBM) was used to recover the alpha-ketoglutaric acid (AKG) from the model broth. A two-chamber EDBM membrane stack consisting of an anion exchange membrane and a BP membrane was used. The effect of the initial composition, applied current density, and pH of diluate on the efficiency of EDBM processes was investigated. The obtained results showed that the used membrane stack configuration allows complete separation of AKG from glucose and ethanol and simultaneous conversion of AKG salts to the acidic form. The scale-up of the EDBM process for model fermentation broth was also carried out. |
