A Bistable Multivibrator as a Phase and Frequency Detector

It is very important to obtain a good noise-limiting performance and wide catching region by phase locked oscillators. In order to obtain these characteristics, a phase detector must operate simultaneously as a frequency detector. In this report it is shown how a bistable multivibrator modified for phase detector operation operates as a frequency detector as well.
