A Parametric Study of the Synthesis of 4,4′,5,5′,7,7′-Hexanitro-1,1′-Binaphthyl

Conditions for the synthesis of 4,4′,5,5′,7,7′-hexanitrobinaphthyl( I ) from 1,1′-binaphthyl have been investigated. It has been found that( I ) can be prepared in 50% yield in a two-stage nitration process.
