Abstract: | The methods of speckle-interferometry, electron, optic, and atom-force microscopy were used to study the structure and regularities of deformation of surface layers on metals and alloys in friction. The causes of deformation localization are analyzed. An explanation of the strong wear resistance of Hadfield steel is proposed using data on the evolution of the surface layer structure. |
