Abstract: | The microbiological oxidation of cadmium, cobalt, nickel and zinc sulphides has been investigated using a pure strain of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. Kinetic parameters (Vm and K) have been derived regarding the effect of initial total surface area of these substrates. A relationship is suggested to exist between the rate of sulphide oxidation and the solubility product of the respective metal sulphide. |
