Abstract: | A kinetic study of the anionic polymerization of α-methyl-α-propyl-β-propiolactone has been made in tetrahydrofuran at ?20°C, with the cryptate K++222] as counter-ion. Conductance measurements have been made on THF solutions of potassium β-naphthoate complexed by 222] as a model of cryptated carboxylates. Propagation reaction proceeds through cryptated ion pairs and free ions. Cryptated carboxylate ion pairs are more reactive than free ions. |
