Abstract:Poly(ethylene-1-octene) (POE) was functionalized to varying degrees with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) by melt grafting processes. Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and 1H NMR spectra confirmed that glycidyl methacrylate was successfully grafted onto the POE. The data from GPC measure demonstrated that POE chains degraded during grafting process. The POE-g-GMA elastomers were used to toughen nylon. The mechanical properties, fracture surface morphology and the dispersal phase size were investigated. Results showed that the grafting degree strongly influenced the morphology, mechanical properties and the dispersal phase size of PA6/POE-g-GMA blends.
