Abstract: | This paper reviews the results of polybutene incorporation in polyolefin stretch wrap film. Polybutenes are a series of isobutylene-butene copolymers com- posed predominately of high molecular weight mono-olefins (95-loo%), the balance being isoparaffins. Polybutenes are colorless, permanently fluid liquids with modest to high viscosities. In addition, they are chemically stable, resis- tant to oxidation by light and heat, nondrying, FDA approved, completely hydrophobic, and impermeable to water vapor and gases. An important char- acteristic is tackiness, which increases with increased molecular weight. |
