Abstract: | The magnetic field produced by an alternating current flowing in the busbars of gas insulated substations induces eddy currents in the metal parts nearby. The metal enclosure is exposed to this magnetic field as well, therefore power loss within it is unavoidable. The eddy current losses and the outer field can be reduced by optimizing the substation geometry. This paper deals with the influence of enclosure distance, thickness and material on the losses and outer field of substations having separately enclosed busbars. These results are based on a general 1D analytical model, and as an example, on the 2D finite element simulation of a particular busbar configuration. |
